Voiceover timer

Paste your script and pick a pace. See how long it takes to say, line by line, and whether it fits the video.

This tool is in labs: it works, and we are still testing it. What it makes is yours to keep.

How it works

A voiceover that runs long gets rushed or cut. Timing the script before you film tells you whether it fits the video, and which line to cut if it does not.

The timer counts the words in each line, divides by your speaking pace, adds any pauses you choose, and compares the total with the length you are aiming for.

Which data it uses

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to Fluencify; we only count that the tool was used.

The paces are starting points. The most accurate one is your own: read a line out loud, time it, and enter your words per minute.

Step by step

  1. Paste your script, one line or sentence per line if you can.
  2. Pick a pace, or enter your own words per minute.
  3. Pick the length you are aiming for, and whether to add a pause after each sentence.
  4. Press Time my script to see the time for each line, the total, and how many words to cut or how much room is left.

Example

A four-line script at 150 words a minute

What goes in

Script
4 lines, 60 words
Pace
Normal, 150 words/min
Aiming for
30 seconds

What comes out

  • 60 words at 150 words a minute take 24 seconds.
  • That fits in 30 seconds, with room for about 15 more words.

Questions

How many words fit in a 30-second video?

It depends on how fast you speak. At 150 words a minute, 30 seconds is 75 words. Leave some room for pauses and for moments where the product speaks for itself.

How do I find my own pace?

Read a paragraph out loud and time it. Divide the number of words by the seconds it took and multiply by 60, then enter that as your pace.

Does it count pauses?

Only if you choose a pause length. A short pause after each sentence makes a voiceover easier to follow, and the pauses add up quickly.

Why does it say my script is too long?

At your pace, the words take longer than the video. Cut the line that says the least; the timer shows how many words to lose.
