Safe-zone templates for TikTok, Reels and Shorts

Pick a platform and download a transparent overlay for your editor. The shaded edges are where the app's buttons, caption and account name can cover your video.

This tool is in labs: it works, and we are still testing it. What it makes is yours to keep.

How it works

Every short-video app draws its own interface on top of your video: the caption and account name at the bottom, buttons down the right, tabs at the top. Anything important underneath, from on-screen text to the product itself, gets covered.

A safe-zone overlay shows where that happens. This tool draws one for TikTok, Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts, or for all three at once, as a transparent PNG or SVG at 1080 x 1920 pixels. Lay it over your video in your editor, keep text and the product inside the outlined area, then hide the overlay before you export.

Which data it uses

Runs entirely in your browser: the overlay is drawn on your device and nothing you choose is sent to Fluencify. We only count that the tool was used.

The measurements come from each platform's own published specs, linked under Sources: TikTok's safe-zone file for In-Feed ads, Meta's guidance for Reels ads and Google's safe zones for vertical YouTube video ads. None of the three publishes separate figures for ordinary posts, so these ad specs are the closest official guide. The interface also moves with the caption's length, the screen and the app version, so treat the lines as a margin of safety rather than an exact edge.

Step by step

  1. Pick the platform, or all three if one video goes everywhere.
  2. Choose shaded areas or an outline only, and whether to add measurements and guide lines.
  3. Press Make my overlay, then download the PNG or the SVG.
  4. Put the overlay on the top layer in your editor, keep text and the product inside the outlined area, and hide it before you export.

What comes out

  • TikTok: 240 px at the top, 660 px at the bottom, a column of buttons 180 px wide on the right from 840 px down, and 120 px down each side.
  • Instagram Reels: at least 14% at the top (269 px), 35% at the bottom (672 px) and 6% on each side (65 px).
  • YouTube Shorts: 288 px at the top, 672 px at the bottom, 48 px on the left and 192 px on the right.
  • Clear on all three: 120 to 888 px across and 288 to 1,248 px down, narrowing to 780 px across below 840 px, where TikTok's buttons sit.

Questions

What is a safe zone?

The part of a vertical video that the app's own interface does not cover. Text, faces and the product belong inside it; the edges are for background.

Is the safe zone the same on every platform?

No. Each app puts its caption, account name and buttons in slightly different places, so the zones differ. Choose All three at once if you post the same video everywhere, and the overlay shows the area clear on all of them.

Do these zones apply to ordinary posts, or only to ads?

The platforms publish these numbers for ads, and none of the three publishes separate figures for ordinary posts. Ordinary posts carry the same kind of caption and buttons, so the ad zones are a sensible guide for both.

My project is not 1080 x 1920. Can I still use it?

Yes, if it is vertical 9:16. The overlay is drawn at 1080 x 1920 pixels; for another 9:16 size, such as 1440 x 2560, scale it to fill the frame and every zone scales with it.

Can I use the overlay for brand videos?

Yes. A brand's brief may ask for text and the product to stay clear of the app's interface, and the overlay makes that quick to check before you deliver. Sign up free to find brand gigs on Fluencify.
